Welcome Address of the President of the Association of German Railway Engineers (VDEI) Dr.-Ing Thomas Mainka
I cordially welcome you to the 27th International Exhibition for Track Technology – the iaf in Münster, the world's largest trade fair in the field of track technology and railway construction. Use the opportunity of your visit to the exhibition to benefit from this outstanding meeting place for experts of the railway system and to get informed about the state of the art of construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure. The organising Association of German Railway Engineers (VDEI) is pleased with your visit to the iaf and wishes you and all participants to the exhibition a good success.
On 15,000 m2 of covered surface of the Messe- und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland, on 6,000 m2 of open area and on more than 3,000 m of track the iaf 2017 offers a representative overview of the industry. There is no other event where such a comprehensive presentation of the latest machines, devices and building technologies is given in the same high spatial concentration.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the iaf Salon where interesting events will take place. Seminars and company presentations will be offered and visitors can obtain qualified technical information and may expand their customer and partner networks.
The iaf Job Market aims at inspiring the upcoming generation for railway technology in order to strengthen the workforce of young people in the sector. There will be a daily Career Point Event at 12:00 a.m. at the VDEI stand where young professionals of the railway sectors will discuss the requirements and development opportunities for engineers in the railway sector in front of an audience of pupils and students. Furthermore, on the last day of the fair VDEI members will guide pupils and students through the exhibition. The iaf will thus bring students and young railway engineers in contact with potential future employers.
I would finally warmly invite you to visit my home city Münster after your visit to the exhibition. Münster is one of the most livable cities and at the same time a young and open-minded university city. The historic old town, the market in front of the time-honoured cathedral, the magnificent Prinzipalmarkt, our green promenade ring around the old town and many more picturesque spots worth to be seen are best explored by bicycle. Given the bright future of railways in intermodal transportation, there are many reasons to extensively enjoy the combination of rail and bike especially in Münster.
I wish all exhibitors and visitors a pleasant stay at the iaf, many new contacts, good professional discussions and successful business deals!
